Jane Pride is a young woman living in London in 1820. She's desperate for work and hears of a duke in the Welsh hills who needs someone to catalogue his medieval documents. She eagerly sends him a letter offering her services for a small fee.

Duke Raven is a lonely man isolated in an estate in Wales who has just received a letter from a young woman who wants to come and work for him.
