Description

All is not well in the New Order of the World. Descendants of river spirits of Stratford-upon-Avon, a colony of wingless creatures lives by the letter of the law in the trunk of a twisted elm. But when the reptilian Chief Justice Bitterroot seizes power of the Upper Office, he seeks to crush all opposition. Only Indigo defies him. When secretly she is detained by the SF2 and thrown into the Root System to die, her innocent friend is convicted of her murder and that of Martine the mantis, her fierce protector. Only by facing their fears, can Thistle and Indigo courageously trump the tyranny of Bitterroot. Only then can they discover their true nature and restore to the NOW its vanishing rights.

As a devoted fantasy enthusiast, I found this novel, set in the enchanting Prospect Park, to be a delightful and riveting read. From the unique concept of a lizard revolution under an Old Elm to the lively protagonists Indigo and Thistle, this book hooked me from start to finish. It's a modern-day classic that cleverly weaves a tale of freedom, resilience, and triumph over oppression, making it an interesting and insightful adventure.

The author's ability to paint vivid descriptions in a whimsical manner left me utterly immersed. I was particularly fascinated by the intricate dynamics and conflicts between characters, especially the refreshing defiance of the petite heroine, Indigo. Her character, akin to those in the timeless classics of 'Midsummer Night's Dream', 'Alice in Wonderland', and 'Peter Pan', stands out as a beacon of bravery.

This book is much more than just a perfect bedtime story, it's a call to freedom and the human spirit, artfully presented through a magical fairytale lens. A highly imaginative and well-written page turner that I cannot recommend enough!
