Description

*Wild West Tale One! In the spring of 1859 in Brooklyn, New York, gentleman geologist Ben Jones proposed, "Maggie Mecinski, I want you to be my bride. But first, I must seek my fortune in the hills near Santa Barbara, California. Only after I come back as a success... will I be able to marry you." Maggie boldly answered as an act of sheer willpower, "I will marry you, Ben." From that moment on, Maggie made a few life changing plans of her own. She knew that Ben would travel cross-country on horseback. Meanwhile, she would secretly book passage on a ship. The dangerous route would take her through the newly discovered Northwest Passage from the Atlantic through the Arctic to the Pacific Ocean. * * * In Santa Barbara, California. greenhorn prospector Ben Jones discovered a mountain of gold. Now, he needed a bad reputation to scare off the murderous mountain men of the Wild West. So, he invented the Legend of the Gold Undertaker. Every few weeks, Ben buried a new hand carved casket in the Mission's cemetery and claimed that the bodies were his unlucky partners. Of course he paid the old caretaker with gold nuggets instead of cash. Without his knowing, Maggie spied on Ben. She feared that her beloved fiancé had been corrupted by greed. Was Ben killing off his partners in order to keep all the gold for himself? Would Ben kill her after they were made partners for life?
