Description
This book is a modernized version of theological lectures by William Cunningham (1805-1861). Although these lectures were first delivered in the 1840s, they were not published until 1878. The lectures, after dealing with some important preliminary matters, become an exposition of the first chapter of the Westminster Confession of Faith. As such, it is a commentary on the nature of the Bible. The language of this paraphrased edition is still recognizably of the 19th century, but long sentences have been shortened, passive language is turned into active, Latin quotations are translated into English and passages are at times summarized. I have substituted more modern words for Cunningham's older terms, and have also replaced 'man' and 'men' to more inclusive words except where I believe Cunningham meant male person or persons. Because I have modified Cunningham's original work, I do not feel this book is suitable as an academic source, but it is offered as an easier way to become acquainted with William Cunningham's theological views.
