Description
Death doesn't stop...
Not even for Y2K.
Houston Homicide Detective Steve Smiley ignored the warnings and went to bed as usual. The jangle of the phone after midnight told him everything as he knew it had not ended as predicted, and he probably wouldn't get much more sleep tonight.
Anything is possible on New Year's Eve, but suicide by electrocution? Even though the neighbors say most anything was possible with this guy, that's a strange way to end it all.
With Smiley's partner under the gun to get time off the books and possibly being forced into early retirement, the novice detective is forced to lead the investigation. Steve's 'gift' of seeing red at a homicide scene has let him down. Convinced it's murder, Smiley sets out to prove it the old fashioned way -- with brain power and shoe leather. If Smiley doesn't find a killer, someone will start the new millennium getting away with murder and he'll be under the thumb of a new partner.
If you like classic detectives who use their words sparingly and get the job done, you'll love Detective Steve Smiley!
