Description

Now a respected senior officer in the Birmingham Constabulary, Chief Inspector Huxley Salt, (known by his middle name, John, to his colleagues and friends) will not tolerate lax attitudes or a disorderly appearance in the officers who serve alongside him. Although not popular with all his colleagues, he has a good professional, and social, relationship with Inspector Aaron Collier. Their relationship, however, has reached a higher level as Huxley's only child, Meredith, has become engaged to Aaron Collier's eldest son, Alex. Following the death of his wife from cancer, Huxley has made a new life in Birmingham, but now has to face the fact that some time in the future, he will be living alone. With not time or inclination to forge a new relationship, his life is fulfilled through his drive to detect, and solve, crimes. Whilst investigating the death's of an elderly couple in suspicious circumstances, Chief Inspector Salt, and Inspector Collier, are alerted to the discovery of the skeletal remains of two children discovered on a building site where the ground is being excavated for a new housing estate.
