Description
When Seascape Cove decided to hold an Art Show and auction off the entries to raise money for the Recreation Center, they didn't expect an anonymous donor to drop off a painting that - if it was authentic - could be worth millions.
Who dropped it off? Was it real?
It was up to Helen O'Connor Rodgers, owner of O'Connor Gallery and Chairwoman of the Art Show to sort it all out. If the painting was an original Davinia Hockenberry oil painting and not a very good copy, it would sell for enough to build a new Rec Center, Town Hall and anything else the tiny seaside village in Northern California cared to construct. Ms. Hockenberry's last painting had fetched $32 million when Christie's auctioned it off two years ago.
The experts authenticated it, and the Media descended. The madness started.
Police Chief Trent Marlow worried it might be stolen from the Art Show.
His fiancée (who happened to be Helen's niece) Cressi Harris had some connections in New York and suddenly Seascape Cove was bursting at the seams as some very ruthless people were determined own the last painting Hockenberry finished before she died.
Helen, Trent and Cressi worked hard to keep the painting safe. Of course their efforts were complicated by Helen's husband, Kevin Rodgers, who figured he was the expert on everything and the best amateur detective in California!
