Description
Here's a question to ponder, if conservativism is such a spiritual virtue, why then is the word conservative not in the Bible? The answer is because there is no biblical foundation for being a conservative. Conservativism is a political and social construct. It is not a spiritual state of being. The word conservative cannot be found in the Bible because it is antithetical to Christian virtue and the teaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Perhaps this is what Jesus meant when he said, "But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men." (Matthew 15:9; KJV). The word conservative, or any related word, simply does not appear in the Bible -- not even once. To find out what is true about him, Jesus tells followers to. "Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me" (John 5:39; KJV).
In the evangelical community, being conservative has become a litmus test for being considered a good Christian. However, if evangelicals wanted to find a biblical term to justify their political views, maybe they should have chosen the word liberal (a term they deeply despised) instead of the term conservative.
If liberal is such a supposedly sacrilegious word, then why is it found in the Bible? The word liberal and the related words liberally and liberality appears 10 times in the Bible in 8 different Bible verses. In each verse, the word is used in a positive manner. It is a word confirming that a person has developed kindness, charity, and spiritual virtue.
The conservative political right has done a masterful job of making liberalism an evil word. They have made the word liberal to be viewed as something un-American. The conservative religious right has branded those who share liberal values as being unChristlike. With the creation of the Moral Majority in the late 1970s, the conservative political right and the conservative Christian right merged. As a result -- conservativism has become a quasi-religion. The conservative religious right tends to think that they have a monopoly on Jesus.
From the 700 Club, to Focus on the Family, to conservative Christian radio, to conservative politicians, to Fox News, and especially to the American Family Association, and even during Sunday sermons -- liberalism has been branded as evil, a tool of the devil. Conservatives are convinced that liberals are destroying America.
In some conservative circles, the word liberal has become the "L" word synonymous with the "N" word. And they say it with such disdain, dragging it out -- liberaaaaal!!!!!
There are those in the religious far-right who believe that you cannot be a Christian if you are a liberal. They believe that Jesus was a conservative. But if you take a look at the teaching of Jesus as recorded in the Bible, you would find that Jesus Was A Liberal!
This new thought-provoking book clearly explains in crystal clear language and in undisputed biblically documented facts the liberal life of Jesus. The author backs up his claims using biblical text taken directly from the New Testament's four gospels of the life of Jesus: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John of the Holy Bible.
This new controversial book may anger many conservative Republicans and Evangelicals across America. But, no one -- not even the most acclaimed evangelical theologian, the most senior Republican politician, or the most noted conservative historian -- will be able to provide proof arguing against the political, biblical, and historical facts presented in this book. After reading this book, you too will be convinced that Jesus Was A Liberal.
