When Otis O'Reilley got out of prison (again!) and came back to Crystal Shores, most people were surprised he'd show his face in the charming little town on Washington State's Pacific Shore.

When he was rolling in money after Doris took him to the cleaners in the divorce, people wondered loudly where he got it.

When he sailed up in a fancy sports fishing boat equipped with all the latest navigation equipment named Lady Bountiful, the whispers began. Most people in Crystal Shores, knowing Odious Otis's lack of moral fiber, assumed he might be running drugs.

When the boat was stolen from the South Cape Marina, the whispers turned to innuendo every time his name was mentioned. Everybody figured Otis was trying some insurance fraud.

When Lady Bountiful was found abandoned, drifting aimlessly ten miles offshore, the gossip mongers had a field day.
The Coast Guard towed her back to her berth and turned the case over to Police Chief Thea Monroe to find out who'd stolen the boat.

The gossipers snickered, sure it was a drug run that had been aborted. They expected Otis to show up any minute with some tall tale nobody would believe.
